The truth is that many people would love to use a Service Management or SLA Monitoring tool - I know this because I speak to them almost every day. I also know that a lot of them dont use an SLA monitoring tool. I also know why – although it took me a while to figure it out.

The main reason why people are slow to use an SLA tool is i) they dont have metrics in place ii) they are afraid of their service providers.

No metrics in place – this is pretty common. Deciding upon exactly what you are going to measure is difficult – but it is absolutely necessary if you are going to have meaningful information on the quality of services you are going to receive. Afraid of service providers- some clients do feel uncomfortable asking service providers to report on the quality of the service they are delivering. I have been both a client and a service provider so I understand this – however this is a mistake. You need to take control of reporting on service providers if you are serious about managing your SLAs.
